DMC Attends Kubecon 2022

Zobair Shahadat, a Senior Data Platform Engineer, and Dr. Rion Dooley, Director of Platform Services and Solutions, take a break in between panel sessions at Kubecon 2022.

Kubernetes, or K8s, is an open-source system used to automate deployment, scale, and manage containerized applications. Data Machines Corp. (DMC) team members regard this cluster orchestration system as incredibly powerful. Because our DMC team members are passionate about learning, networking, and taking part in discussions related to our industry and the clients we serve, two members of our team attended this year’s KubeCon: Dr. Rion Dooley and Zobair Shahadat.

KubeCon is an exhilarating virtual and in-person conference designed to bring developers and users of Kubernetes together to discuss current trends and new technologies in the Kubernetes ecosystem. The conference is hosted by Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), and specializes in building sustainable ecosystems for cloud native software. In addition to Kubernetes, they host critical components of the global technology infrastructure, including Envoy and Prometheus. CNCF is also part of the nonprofit Linux Foundation.

KubeCon + CloudNativeCon took place in Los Angeles, California, last year. This year, the conference made its way to the Great Lakes, taking place Oct. 24-28, 2022 in Detroit, Michigan. The five-day conference featured informative sessions, inspiring keynote speakers, and exciting lightning talks.

“KubeCon has become an annual "can't miss" conference for me. The breadth of programming - from high level keynotes to hands-on developer sessions - lets me craft my own experience. And, now that in-person attendance is back to pre-covid levels, the amount of information I take away from networking between sessions compresses a year’s worth of meetups into a few days. I can’t recommend it enough,” said Dr. Rion Dooley, Director of Platform Services and Solutions.

This year’s Keynote speakers included Priyanka Sharma, CNCF General Manager; Frederick Kautz, Cloud Native Infra and Security Enterprise Architect; Emily Fox, Engineer, Cloud Security Services and Compliance at Apple; and Ricardo Rocha, Computing Engineer at CERN, among others. Sessions included high-level overviews, end user case studies, technical deep dives, and more.

“Kubecon was extremely helpful for me and my team in a number of ways. We were able to learn about the various features of Kubernetes and how to best utilize them for our own purposes. In addition, we were also able to get a better understanding of the future Kubernetes and how it's transforming the industry. This was incredibly valuable for us as we are planning on using some of the best practices learned from Kubecon in our own infrastructure.” said Zobair Shahadat, a Senior Data Platform Engineer.

Our DMC team members who attended the conference would like to thank the organizers, sponsors, and technologists from leading open source and cloud native communities, all of whom continue to contribute to the momentum and growth of the cloud native ecosystem. Dr. Dooley and Zobair enjoyed—and greatly benefited from—coming together to further the education and advancement of cloud native computing in a welcoming and enthusiastic environment.
